Peacebuilding From Within

As a registered nurse, I’ve attended a lot of different trainings on trauma. Never before have I left a course feeling so informed, as well as rejuvenated and uplifted. It makes me so hopeful for the future of trauma care and treatment.

This 20-hour foundational training is for anyone who is interested in integrating a trauma-informed lens into a movement practice or daily life. Participants who have experienced the benefits of this modality include yoga instructors, classroom teachers, mental health professionals, medical practitioners, and bodyworkers.

Training Pre-requisite: Curiosity.

You do not have to be a certified yoga instructor to attend.

While this training is a pre-requisite for the 300-hr TCTSY Certification Program with the Center for Trauma and Embodiment, it can stand on its own as a general framework to apply within diverse contexts (medical, humanitarian, school, daily life, etc.) by applying the therapeutic themes and treatment goals.

Training participants will access tools for understanding the impacts of stress and trauma on the nervous system and how this practice could facilitate peace building from within, through mending bodies and nervous systems - learn to foster this anti-oppressive approach to healing through the application of a trauma-informed lens.  Developing an understanding of complex trauma, attachment theory, and the neuroscience underpinning the TCTSY methodology, participants foster skills to facilitate a movement and breath practice that could support healing from long term trauma.

Although the workshop emphasizes skill development and is facilitated in a respectful and professional manner, it can be emotionally, physically, and intellectually demanding. We recommend creating a self-care plan for the weekend, as there is the possibility of being triggered by course or discussion content.

Those who have participated in the 20-hr training are often able to provide the most genuine testimony about the impact of these foundational workshops:

I am busy and not financially well off. I wanted this training to be professionally useful, of good dollar value, and personally transformative. It delivered on all three fronts! Thank you!

Nicki is a very informative and knowledgeable facilitator. These sessions gave me some new insight and tools I know I will incorporate as a yoga teacher. This program should be part of every teacher training, as many students start their self-reflection if they have had trauma in their life.
— Yoga instructor
I work with the Canadian military population at the Canadian Forces Base Comox and I am excited to bring the insights and skills I have learned into my workplace in my yoga classes and personal training.

Our medical training focused on psychopathology – we’re trained to diagnose based on symptoms and treat. Too often the latter is a prescribed medication. TCTSY offers a powerful, evidence-based framework to work with survivors of complex trauma. It may too offer healing for physicians themselves.
